Although I cover the whole of East and West Sussex, and parts of Surrey for cooker repairs and such like, it sometimes just works out that I get a run of repairs in one particular place. This month it was Eastbourne. There was one week when I was there every day, Monday to Friday, and on one day I was there twice! Not every call-out was for a cooker repair, but there were a few in there:
- Monday I had a nice easy start replacing the main oven door seal on an ancient Electrolux cooker. This felt like my good deed for the week as it was for a lovely OAP who just beamed with relief when I told her it was all covered by the call-out charge
- Wednesday was a fan oven element on a Neff and, while I was there, a call came through about a blown bulb in an oven. Normally changing the bulb in an oven is the sort of thing a customer can do for themselves but, as the customer didn’t feel at all confident and I was in the next road, I popped along with one of the spares from my van, and was rewarded with a delicious chocolate crispy from the junior chef of the house
- Thursday it was an extractor fan that had stopped extracting. Cooker hoods are quite simple things, there’s not much to them, just some filters, fans, lights, and on-off switches. When they stop working altogether the chances are it’s the mini electronic circuit board that controls the functions. And so it was with this one. Just a really quick soldering job – and definitely less expensive than a new extractor fan and the redecorating that goes with it!
